Open, Safe Love, the sophomore album by singer/songwriter Amy Lingamfelter, is at once earthly and ethereal, tangible and internal. Not a worship album in the traditional sense, longer tracks ebb and flow with natural, unstructured freedom that still prompt quiet prayer and joy-filled worship. Simple yet thoughtful lyrics reflect an honest and unhindered conversation with God that is both intimate and relevant. Varied instrumentation, including everything from celestial strings to raw djembes and banjos, further enhances and supports the airy-meets-earthy feel that the whole album connotes. While the lyrics and musical arrangements give shape to the unfolding internal story, it is Lingamfelter's voice, as fluid as it is concrete, that seemingly provides a palpable place for each song to move through. This seems only fitting as Open, Safe Love finds it's theme in 1 John 4:19 and is a heaven-to-earth musical dialogue that tells the story of how we love because God first loved us.
