The 9 Spot began in early 2003 when former members of Say Uncle, Mint and Fool's Land joined forces. The band quickly began writing songs, and in May of 2003, The 9 Spot began playing shows. Also in May of 2003, the band hit the studio to record a five-song demo. After winning a battle of the bands at Booker's Backyard in Elgin, IL, the band had enough cash as well as enough songs to record seven more tunes. These songs were added to the previously recorded demo and released as the full-length album, 'Thanks for waiting' in February of 2004. The band classifies themselves as ska-rock, blending a ska/punk vibe with rock. The 9 Spot has drawn many comparisons to No Doubt, but prefered one man's take, 'a cross between Save Ferris and Less than Jake.
